Quick setup

Prepare a focused Zeltino experience with trusted knowledge, saved behaviour, a useful starting question, and a verified website.

On this page

If you are opening a new Zeltino project for the first time, this guide will take you through the shortest complete setup. By the end, the assistant will have one reliable source to answer from, the widget will reflect your basic communication choices, and your website will be ready for a real visitor test.

The goal is not to configure every feature in one sitting. Starting with one focused journey makes it much easier to understand what is working before you add forms, meetings, tickets, or branching chat flows.

In this article, you'll learn:

1. Confirm the selected project#

Zeltino keeps knowledge, widget settings, conversations, and automations within the selected project. Checking the project now prevents you from setting up the right experience in the wrong place.

  1. Check the workspace and project shown in the dashboard navigation.
  2. If you need a different workspace, open the workspace selector and select it before continuing.
  3. Confirm that the project belongs to the website you plan to configure.

Once the selected project matches the website you are preparing, you can continue with confidence that the next settings will stay together. Read How Zeltino works if you would like a clearer explanation of workspaces, projects, and roles first.

2. Add one trusted knowledge source#

The assistant needs approved business information before it can answer a useful question. Start with one specific public page rather than importing the entire website. A focused source makes the first test easier to understand because you already know where the answer should come from.

  1. In Settings, under Learning data, select Website links.
  2. Select Add website link.
  3. Enter the complete public page URL, including https://.
  4. In Source hint, describe when the assistant should use the page. For example: Use for delivery areas, delivery times, and shipping restrictions.
  5. Select Add website link.
  6. Wait until the source shows Fetched or Complete before testing an answer from it.

Once the source is ready, ask the test question you prepared. Compare the answer with the page itself, especially any dates, prices, restrictions, or exceptions. If two sources disagree, correct or remove the outdated source before launch.

3. Set the widget appearance#

Now you can make the visitor-facing widget feel like part of your website. You do not need a final design yet; a readable first version with the correct identity and trust information is enough for testing.

  1. In Settings, under Chat widget, select Appearance.
  2. Set the agent name and subtitle visitors should see.
  3. Choose colors and a corner radius that remain readable against your website.
  4. Review the support email, privacy text and URL, email button, restart button, and voice input settings.
  5. Check the preview at both wide and narrow sizes.
  6. Select Save changes. The page shows Saved when the current configuration is stored.

The preview changes while you work, but your choices are not stored until you select Save changes. Only include a privacy URL and contact details that are ready for visitors to use.

4. Set the assistant behaviour#

Appearance controls what the widget looks like. Behaviour controls how the assistant communicates inside it. Choose a voice that fits ordinary customer questions as well as more difficult conversations.

  1. In Settings, under General settings, select Behaviour.
  2. Under Voice style, select Match the visitor, Friendly and casual, or Professional and polished.
  3. Under Emoji use, decide whether occasional emojis fit your customer communication.
  4. Add an Excluded subject only when the boundary can be stated precisely.
  5. Select Save changes and wait for the saved confirmation.

After saving, try the same test question again and listen to how the answer feels. If the wording is wrong, adjust Behaviour. If the fact itself is wrong, return to the knowledge source instead.

5. Add one suggested question#

A suggested question gives visitors a clear place to begin without typing from scratch. For the first setup, use a question answered by the source you already added so the connection is easy to test.

  1. In Automations, select Suggested Questions.
  2. Select Add question.
  3. Enter a short visitor question that your first knowledge source answers, such as Where do you deliver?.
  4. Under When to show, select Before first message for the first launch.
  5. Keep the target set to All pages unless the question is useful only on one path.
  6. Review the preview, then select Save changes.
  7. Confirm that the page shows Saved.

Use visitor language rather than an internal team label. The question should make sense without additional context. Once it is saved, the preview shows where it will sit alongside any configured contact options.

6. Add and install the website domain#

The widget can now be connected to the website where visitors will use it. Add the exact public domain and use the installation guide that matches the website platform.

  1. In Settings, under Chat widget, select Installation.
  2. Select Add domain.
  3. Enter the domain without https://, a path, or a query string. For example: example.com.
  4. Select Add domain.
  5. In the new domain panel, select the guide for your website platform.
  6. Select Copy script and place the project-specific script in the site-wide location described by the guide.
  7. Publish the website changes.
  8. Return to Installation and wait for the domain status to change from Verifying to Active. Use Refresh check if you need to request another check.
  9. Turn on Enable chat widget on this website.

The two final states have different meanings: verification confirms that Zeltino detected the script on the domain, while Enable chat widget on this website controls whether that verified website can show the visitor experience.

7. Verify the saved setup#

Before testing as a visitor, reload the relevant pages. This quick check confirms that you are looking at saved project configuration rather than an unsaved preview.

  1. Reload Website links and confirm the source is still present.
  2. Reload Appearance and Behaviour and confirm the saved choices remain selected.
  3. Reload Suggested Questions and confirm the question still appears in the preview.
  4. Open Installation and confirm the domain remains Active with the widget enabled.

If every choice remains after reload, the project is ready for a visitor test. If something returns to an earlier value, save that page again before continuing.

Next step#

You now have the smallest complete Zeltino setup: one source, a saved assistant experience, a useful starting question, and an installed website. Follow Test the complete visitor experience from the installed website rather than relying only on configuration previews. When the visitor and team results are correct, complete the Launch checklist.
